The
demands for to clean and efficient combustion necessitates a
molecular approach. We can provide a bridge between basic research
and applied development. Advanced chemical analysis combined with
modelling will fulfil these demands.
Modern
research techniques
ACA have a unique capability to develop reactors, methods,
computer programs and instruments related to combustors. We have
assisted in developing combustors which are more fuel-efficient
and emit lower levels of pollutant chemicals
Advanced Fuel Research
We have developed miniature combustor reactors which are able to
burn fuels with different molecular sizes and structures. We use
the reactors to show how molecular size and structure influence
such problems as ignition and formation of emissions. The reactors
provide a means of predicting the combustion properties, and
emissions properties of gaseous, liquid and solid fuels. New fuels
can be investigated in reactors prior to full combustor studies,
significantly reducing the need for extended studies in actual
combustors
Measurements of Exhaust Emissions
World wide the allowed levels for chemical emissions from
combustors are gradually lowered. This increases the importance in
a understanding transient conditions (within a few seconds) during
which most of the emissions are released. A natural measuring
technique is on-line gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS).
We have used GCMS to investigate emissions from various Otto (SI)
engines and Diesel engines |
